Holy Sanctuary Of Agios Ioannis Prodromos

The Holy Sanctuary of Agios Ioannis Prodromos of Halkidiki is located two kilometers north of the seaside settlement of Metamorfosi, about 96 kilometers from Thessaloniki, after Nea Moudania and Ormylia, at the beginning of the Sithonia Peninsula.

The Holy Sanctuary was founded in 1977 by the blessed Archimandrite Grigorios Papasotiriou. The first candidate nuns were the sisters Eugenia and Maria Horiataki, Sofia Kenanidou from Metamorfosi in Chalkidiki as well as the Tsaprazoglou sisters from neighboring Vatopedi. The spiritual bond with Saint Elder Paisios of Agiorites was also important, as the founder of the monastery, Elder Grigorios, was a spiritual child of Saint Paisios of Agioreites. The presence and contribution of the until recently Abbess blessed old woman Efimia was also important.
